With over 115 million views on Vine, there’s a good chance that you’re already familiar with Yvng Swag.
The 17 year old is a millennial hip hop dancer, artist and social influencer, known for his dance moves and charisma. It was these elements which caught the attention of Nick Cannon, who has since taken the young star under his wing. Yvng Swag also signed a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records, all before releasing a track!
Yvng Swag has since released his debut single, ‘Fall In Luv’, which has already garnered over a million streams on both Spotify and Soundcloud. We recently had a quick Q&A with Yvng Swag to get the latest on his debut single, his love for dancing and what 2017 has in store.
Congrats on recently releasing your debut single ‘Fall In Luv’. What’s the inspiration behind it?
The inspiration behind releasing my “Fall In Luv” record is the motivation from my fans that were encouraging me to make music. I started off playing around on a beat – just mumble rapping, and they thought it was an actual song, so I figured I should get in the studio!
The music video is coming soon – what can you tell us about it?
The music video will show how my dance moves can make a girl “fall in luv”, because I’ve seen the comment soooo many times! “The way you dance just makes me fall in love” Haha
You’re also an awesome hip hop dancer. How did you first get into dancing?
I’ve watched dancing movies since I was 9 years old like “You Got Served” and “Step Up”. The moves looked really cool so I’ve been dancing ever since.
We’ve seen you dance to a variety of genres online – how do you choose the perfect track to dance to?
I just choose any song that has a nice flow to it in any genre of music.
Dancing is your first love, whilst singing is something which is pretty new to you. Do you think there’ll come a time when music takes over your affection from dance?
I’m really passionate about music but I’ve always loved to dance. They are both different ways to express yourself. My mindset is to do both, because you can blend them together!
You’ve become a bit of an internet star. At only 17, does it still feel surreal to have such support online?
It’s just a blessing, honestly.
Nick Cannon is your mentor and one of your managers – what’s he like to work with?
I have much respect for Nick, he’s a great guy and a man of his word. He’s giving me a platform to really showcase my talent along with his amazing team of partners.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Stay Humble, Focused and to Finish school and never forget those who helped you along your journey to success.
You’re releasing an EP in the Spring…what can we expect from it?
You can expect music that will make you happy and smile and have a vibe that will make you feel released! I make songs that are super catchy and just make you show all 32 teeth! Haha
