Footage re-emerges of 17-year-old Ryan Garcia KOing opponent on debut with vicious combination

Ryan Garcia's boxing debut did not last long, as he stopped Edgar Meza within one minute and 34 seconds of the first round.

A 17-year-old Garcia wasted no time unleashing his power punches on Meza, including his signature left hook, which has since become the most dangerous punch in his arsenal.

It was clear even all those years ago that Garcia had mesmerising hand speed and power and shortly after the opening bell he landed an uppercut that hurt Meza.

The Mexican bravely attempted to fight back, but he quickly found himself trapped in the corner, taking a barrage of Garcia punches.

Eventually, with Garcia landing relentless and vicious combinations, the referee stepped in and waved off the contest.

This was the one and only fight of Meza's career and reacting to the clip, fans were not impressed with Garcia's level of opponent.

One Twitter user commented: "Fun fact: His opponent also gave him a ride home that night, as he was a cab driver."

Another added: "His rival is technically awful, looks like drunken man fights in a bar."

While a third said: "What we supposed to do with footage of him beating a local plumber from Mexico?"

Despite this criticism, Garcia has gone on to become a superstar in boxing and on Saturday night he takes on the toughest test of his career to date.

Garcia will headline the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against the formidable Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, who has KO'd 26 of his 28 opponents so far.

Davis also has the advantage in terms of experience having previously held world titles in the super featherweight division, but this fight will take place at a 136lb catchweight.

There is also more than just pride on the line for these two fighters, as they have agreed to bet their entire purses for whomever wins.

Both men went on Instagram live earlier this week and Davis posed the question: “Yo, you wanna bet?” in reference to their upcoming clash.

“Yeah, let’s do it… I’m down,” Garcia replied, as Tank asked: “The whole purse?”

Garcia agreed, saying: “Let’s do it the whole purse.

“You hear me on the live, let’s go, let’s make a contract, let’s sign it, both of us, let’s do it, if you really want it.”

With that being said, it is unlikely the two men will be able to bet on their own fight, but if they can then someone will be in for a huge payday.
